Rexanne's
Web Review
Web Sites and Insights
Issue # 1 - March 14, 2000
Welcome to the first issue of Rexanne's
Web Review! I am thrilled to be sending this newsletter out once a week. I
suppose I'd have to stop if my hands went numb but let's hope that never happens! ;-) I
plan on being at this keyboard for years to come! Rexanne's Web Review
has its own web site, which is linked at the very top of each newsletter. You can bookmark
(add to favorite places) that page and read it online, go back to find an article or tip
you wanted clarification for or any number of reasons. It's there for you! Each issue will
be archived on the web site.
Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, family and Internet buddies. If they
decide they can't live without a weekly dose of Rexanne's Web Review, they can follow the
subscription information that will be listed at the bottom of every issue. Also, there
will be instructions on how to unsubscribe in every issue. I will never take
offense if you choose to lose another piece of email! I had to unsubscribe from many
newsletters myself at various points in my Internet life. It happens. Sometimes we just
get way too busy. Hopefully, you wont unsubscribe because you hate it! If you do,
please let me know that too. If I receive complaints, I'll know whats not working.
I'd like to take a moment to extend my biggest HUGS and thank yous to the
friends and Internet pals who have helped enormously to bring this newsletter to fruition.
You've been an incredible inspiration and I adore you all so very much! I won't mention
names ... you know who you are. :-)
OK, enough babbling ... I tend to do a lot of that, ya know. ;-) You'll have to
suffer through a little of my carrying on each week but you could always just skip the
first paragraph and move right on to the links! ;-)
If the links below are not blue, underlined links to click on, you'll need to
"copy and paste" the web address into your browser window. If you are
unfamiliar with this process, here's how: Highlight the address (left
click with your mouse on the first letter of the address, hold down the
mouse button and drag to the last letter). Right
click with your mouse on the highlighted address and click
"copy" in the window that pops up. Go to your browser
window (at the top of your screen where web addresses appear), left
click in the browser window. Click
"paste" in the popup window. Click enter
on your keyboard.
OK, heres the scoop:
Quote of the Week:

Parenting and Family Link(s) of the Week:
As my most faithful readers know, my belief is that setting limits for
our children is one of the most important tasks in raising well-adjusted kids. I found an
excellent article that best describes how and why we need to set limits our kids will
understand and accept. This is a powerful message to parents who have not
imposed said limits before the child grew into a problem!
Read on: Pitfalls of
not Setting Limits
An excellent article on: Setting Limits
Another great link: Tips For Setting Limits
You can also find an article I wrote about limits on my page Views on Parenting.
The most important part of setting limits to remember is that children are much happier when they have "safe" guidelines for behavior. They learn from us, after all. Let's try to help them become the best little humans they can be! :-)
One of my favorite parenting books on the subject of raising well-adjusted
children is Love & Limits : Guidance Tools and Ideas... - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1884734057/rexannspageforpa/002-3470578-1616258
- by Elizabeth Crary.
This book will explain, in common-sense language, the effectiveness of setting
limits and why. You'll discover how a child is truly much happier and more secure when
raised in an environment of well-thought-out and loving discipline. This book has the
official Rexanne's Seal of Approval! :-)
Food & Cooking Site of the Week:
Diary of a Mad
Politically Incorrect Cook
When I found this site a few years ago, I knew Id found a tiny slice of heaven online. Little did I know, I would make a great friend in the web mistress, Martha Jones. Marthas site is one of the best kept secrets on the web. It's loaded with quick and easy recipes, most using packaged ingredients. She isn't called Queen Can-ivore for nothing! Martha scours the net, searching for "Five or Less" ingredient recipes to add to her site each week. This is not that "other" Martha's web site ... this is for us real people who have more normal lives! LOL!
Also check out this page of Martha's site: Catch All
Lots of tidbits you just shouldn't have to live without! ;-)
Here's a specific page with one of my favorite "Martha-style" recipes: Home Made
Oh! Oh! Oh! GAWD they're GOOD! ;-) They're also ridiculously easy to make. You'll find tons of great tips and tricks on this amazing site, some very funny editorial and I swear you'll be thanking me for sending you there! Martha loves email, so drop her a line, tell her I love her and enjoy!
Kid's Site of the Week:
One of the most delightful sites online for kids is BlackDog! The Site for Kids
There is so much to do here, your child will be entertained for hours. Not just for the younger crowd ... BlackDog's has educational content (disguised as fun), loads of really cool original games, online mazes, word searches, activities, jokes, an online coloring book and e-cards the kids can send to their online buddies. BlackDog's is a very easy-to-navigate site so you can leave the kids alone with it for short spurts, confident they'll find their way around. Great for kids from 4 to 4-ever. Hey, I even have fun on this site!
Tip or Trick of the Week:
"Pick it up with a spoon ... "
One of my all-time favorite parenting tips was from my sister-in-law. She is an angel of a
lady who should have had a hundred children but, because of medical reasons, couldn't have
any. Well, one Christmas, when my older daughter had just puked all over the carpet in her
room, (sorry if this grosses you out but you're really gonna love this tip! LOL!) she
advised me to "pick it up with a spoon!" Ya know ... it worked! I won't go into
details. I figure the tip is icky enough to imagine as it is unless you happen to be in
this very predicament and then you'll think it's a Godsend!
This tip also works for other mishaps ... food spills, liquids, etc. Use
your imagination! You'll be toting a spoon around behind your kids for years.
Got a tip or trick your fellow readers would enjoy or could use? Please send it in for
possible publication in one of the next issues! Be sure to let me know if you would like
me to include your name and/or email address or if you prefer to remain anonymous.
Weekly Time Waster:
(Because life is supposed to be fun!)
Want to work a jigsaw puzzle online? Whoa
this is a great time-waster!
Go here: JigZone: Online Jigsaw Puzzles
You pick the picture, the amount of pieces to work with and the outline of the puzzle. I stick with the straight lines still ... novice that I am! There are hundreds of pictures to choose from, with new pictures added weekly. Have fun ... feed the kids first. ;-)
Featured Home Page of the Week:
There is really no message I'd rather give you all, my dearest readers. This is an uplifting, heartwarming, SUPER page! Please carry this message in your hearts. I truly believe we need to love ourselves more in this world and StinaLisa has created a page to gently drive the point home. After you've read this page, click on the "home" button at the bottom. You will find a list of other amazing pages there. Don't miss "Turn Around" ... an awesome page about a mother's love for her daughter. I cried, smiled and cried some more while reading that one! Home pages like this are rare, my friends. StinaLisa has a true talent for touching hearts with visually beautiful and emotionally touching pages. Enjoy! :-)
